Hall of Fame - Sheila Carr

Sheila Carr
Inducted: May 31, 2019
Hall of Fame - Builder

There are certain qualities of those who strive to build and develop a sport that at times, seems to be in decline. Due to their love of the game many individuals spend countless and tireless hours working on the development of programs that will hopefully translate in to better programs for the bowlers.

This evening we are proud to honour the first two inductees in to the C5PBA Hall of Fame under the Builders Division.

Selection for the builder division of the C5PBA Hall of Fame is based on nominations from the membership and acceptance by the Hall of Fame committee.

Our second inductee has more than 40 years of involvement as both a volunteer and employee. Starting out in small town Ontario as a spare in her father’s league, she quickly advanced through the levels of league and local association administration.

At the provincial level she took on the task of working with a then struggling Quebec Association and within 6 years had turned the association around, increased their open participation to a full and strong contingent, and mentored some very strong candidates to take over the administration going forward.

One of her greatest passions in our sport is the participation and development of future athletes through our Youth Challenge. She works tirelessly to ensure that our National Championships at that level are a success.

The sports technical programs have advanced thanks in large part to her diligence, guidance and recruitment of knowledgeable people. She has become our sports encyclopaedia and the rule book and governance guru.

This August will mark 30 years as an employee of the C5PBA. She has worked with 7 different Presidents and many different Executive Officers during this time. She mentors and assists not just the national executive but provincial delegates as well. You may think that this is all part of the job, but it takes a strong person to survive the changes that new board members want to bring to the table. She commits countless personal hours to ensure the strength and success of the national and provincial associations.

In essence she is the back bone of our association, without her passion, love and dedication for our sport, events like the one we had this week wouldn’t happen, and for that we should be grateful.

The C5PBA is proud to induct into the Builders Division of the Hall of Fame from Gatineau, Quebec, Sheila Carr.
